Outside Manicotti (can be
made without meat)
In
large saucepan heat oil and add onions & garlic and cook until
translucent stirring constantly. Stir
in tomatoes, tomato paste, basil & 1/2 tsp salt and bring to
boil. Reduce heat, cover and cook on low and simmer 20 minutes
stirring occasionally. Cook
ground beef and drain and add to sauce mixture. In
another bowl mix cheeses, egg, pepper, nutmeg, and the rest of the
salt. In
a 2 quart casserole spread 1 cup sauce layer, 1/2 noodles, spread 1/2
of the cheese and repeat layers. Bake
at 350 degrees 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and sauce is
