My Grandma's Nut Icing

1 cup Finely Chopped Walnuts
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Can Milk (evaporated milk)
Egg (well beaten)
1 tsp Vanilla (add after icing is cooked)
This will ice a 13x9 sheet cake   -   Double Recipe for two round layers

The cake and icing was a birthday tradition growing up.  

 

  1. Mix everything together in a medium saucepan (EXCEPT vanilla).  

  2. Boil on low for about 1 hour or until very thick stirring constantly scrapping sides and bottom of pan to prevent scorching.. 

  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla and stir well.  

  4. Cool before icing cake.
