Mom's Sweet & Sour Green Beans
A holiday tradition

2 slices Bacon
1 Tbsp  Flour
1/4 cup Vinegar
1 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/2 cup Chopped Onion
1 can Green beans (I use French Style)  SAVE THE LIQUID
1/2 cup  Green Bean Liquid
2-3 Tbsp Sugar

 

  1. Fry Bacon Until CRISP and save the bacon grease

  2. Cook the onions in 2 Tbsp bacon grease until soft but not brown

  3. Slowly stir in flour

  4. Add Vinegar, Salt, Pepper, Sugar and Green Bean Liquid 

  5. Cook mixture until it starts to thicken

  6. Add Green Beans and cook until heated

  7. Place in serving dish and crumble bacon on top

If you wish to double or triple recipe double or triple all ingredients except vinegar and sugar.  Add the vinegar and sugar sparingly and taste to avoid too Beans being too sweet or too sour.  .
